Mission:

To create a dazzlingly fresh personal vehicle transportation strategy that is powered by 100%
clean, green renewable energy.  The Institute's main focus is to promote the conversion of gasoline powered vehicles to electric.  The Yellow Line Institute is a progressive think tank, a mentoring organization, and a practical change-making 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

What's all this Talk About Electric Vehicles?

The Yellow Line Institute was formed in October 2008 to promote the mass conversion of gasoline vehicles to electric.  Our goal is to reverse climate change, end wars for oil, and build a green economy by creating discussion and action around the issue of EV Conversions.

Because US automobiles are responsible for about 1/4 of US greenhouse gas emissions, the climate crisis cannot be solved without removing gasoline vehicles from the roads.  The good news is, the technology already exists to convert existing vehicles to clean, green electric.  In fact, there are about 250 million gas spewing, greenhouse gas emitting  vehicles already on America's roads, most of which can easily be converted to electric.

The time has come to reduce, reuse and recycle our old automobiles - to give them a new life, one that we can be proud of, by removing old gas engines and replacing them with new, nearly maintenance free, very powerful, electric systems!

How Much Does an Electric Car Conversion Cost?

Converting your gasoline powered vehicle to electric can range from about $12,000 to $25,000 and up, depending on how many special features you choose.  The difference in cost has to do with the type of battery used (lithium ion or lead acid), the type of motor used (AC or DC), and the type of charger (20 minutes or 8 hours to fully charge vehicle).   The more you pay, the longer battery life and the farther you will be able to go per charge.  Many states give significant tax credits for electric vehicle coversions which, in many cases, will nearly cover the cost of the vehicle.  STAY TUNED.   We will be posting more detailed information on cost and what you can expect to pay for an EV conversion.

How Far Can an Electric Vehicle go on a Battery Charge?

Most conversions allow the car to go about 40 to 60 miles per charge.  Although, the more expensive packages, will allow the car to go up to 200 miles per charge.  For a specific estimate, contact us and we will obtain bids from several conversion companies for your specific needs.

How Do You Charge an Electric Vehicle?

Today's electric vehicles can be charged in any electric outlet - 220 or 110.  to get a full battery charge, it usually takes about 3-8 hours.  However, with a more expensive charger, your vehicle can fully charge in about 20 minutes.

Are Electric Cars Really Cleaner?

Electric vehicles really are cleaner.  The battery pack of an electric vehicle is typically charged by plugging the vehicle into the electricty grid.  Electricy comes from various sources like coal, solar, wind, geothermal, and nuclear.  The cleanest way to charge an EV is using solar, wind or geothermal.  If your electricity comes from coal, charging your vehicle will be somewhat dirtier causing some greenouse gas, mercury and other emissions.  However, even with coal, significantly less (about 50% less) greenhouse gas emissions will result from charging your EV than if you were driving a gas vehicle the same distance.  Of course, if your house has solar panels, it would be crazy not to have an EV!

Now take into account the hidden pollution costs of building a new vehicle - if you convert an existing vehicle to electric, the negative environmental effects are even less!
